About Katie

I would like to share the story of the journey that brought me to HypnoBirthing® and to become a Childbirth Educator and Professional Labor Doula. I am a Colorado girl born and raised in Colorado Springs. I first heard about HypnoBirthing while taking a Maternal-Newborn Health Care class in Nursing School. My Instructor, a Certified Nurse Midwife for many years, mentioned during one of her lectures that HypnoBirthing® was the most effective method for natural childbirth that she had ever seen. Ironically enough, later that semester I became pregnant. I knew immediately that I wanted to find out more about this method and began my research. I found that a yoga instructor in town was teaching HypnoBirthing® and so I bought the textbook and began reading. I became so excited with the information because it made so much sense emotionally, spiritually, and physically. I began to wonder "Wow, wouldn't it be cool if this really did work and I could have a natural AND comfortable birth". I took the classes later in my pregnancy and actually looked forward to the birth of our child.

I had practiced and planned for months in preparation for our Baby's birth. Towards the end of my pregnancy I had special circumstances that required a little bit of medical help, and we decided that the best decision was to be induced. This was not what I was hoping for, but I took the tools HypnoBirthing® had taught me and moved forward with my birth. My complete birth story is written on this site, but I remember vividly when after about 5 hours my Nurse Midwife checked me and said "You're amazing, you're 9cm". I was so excited, and I admit that it was at that point that I said "HypnoBirthing® worked, just like they said it could!". I realized after this birth of our first daughter how amazing birth truly is and I really wanted everyone to be able to experience the kind of birth that I had.

I began teaching HypnoBirthing® because I am passionate about pregnancy and birth, and because I believe this method is a completely inclusive method that gives the knowledge, tools, and confidence for families to prepare for the birth they desire. I know it works, because I have experienced it now twice, as I had another beautiful HypnoBirthing® birth 20 months after the first to another beautiful daughter. It is from the joy of these experiences that I want to share what I learned with other families.

My professional training includes a Bachelors degree in Integrative Physiology, a Bachelors degree in Nursing and I am a Registered Nurse. I am a Childbirth Educator associated with the HypnoBirthing Institute. I also have 4 years of birth experience as a Professional Birth Doula and Birth Assistant.
